- Place of birth/hometown: Born in Birmingham, but have been in Mobile for several years.
- MWG member for how many years: Only been a member of the Guild for a month, but I attended several meetings during 2012 and loved it.
- Books published: My second manuscript, Rumours of War, is my first book to be published. I’m grateful to Rebel E Publishers for taking a chance with me.
- What was your first writing-related gig? I’m not sure if it counts, but I received a college scholarship for creative writing — let’s just say years ago.
- Who are your top five favorite authors right now? John Grisham, Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child, John Updike, Suzanne Collins.
- What is your literary guilty pleasure? Fear of kidnapping. As a pilot, a lot of my writing is done while sitting in secure compounds in various armpits of the world. Not a huge fan of soccer, which plays constantly on TV, and there’s never internet access. Writing is my entertainment (that is to say, obsession), and the stories flight crews and other people tell work their way into my books. Also, some of the characters in my books may eerily resemble my friends in real life.
- What books inspired you as a child? Definitely the classics. Treasure Island was a favorite, as well as Sherlock Holmes. I also liked Where the Red Fern Grows, and earlier books by Stephen King . Anything by Hemingway.
- Do you have any strange rituals that help you get in the mood to work: My apologies in advance, but I love a good cigar while writing. I don’t know why, but it’s calming and stirs creativity. When I’m writing, I’m living whatever is happening in the book, so I retreat into my own little world.
