I am interested in joing the Mobile Writers’ Guild and plan to attend the meeting next week. I have a question: I would like to “hook up” with those who are interested in writing for children. Does such a goup exist within the Guild?

  2. YES!
We have a healthy dose of writers for young people, including me–the current president. There are several critique groups that members have formed among themselves, but I only know of one active group that is focused on younger stories, and it’s YA novels.
There might be enough interest to get another critique group going for childrens’ lit, I’ll be sure check around for you at the meeting. I know of at least 2 members who are focused more on picture books…

I am a writer. I am also a student. I’ve been published with poetry a while back on a couple of web sites. Nothing big. Writing my passion. I could literally do it all day everyday. I want to get in touch with people who will help me advance in this career. I could easily write a book if I had someone to guide me through the right steps. I would like to see someone immediately.

I would like someone to read some of the poems and short stories I’ve written. I want to know if I have a real shot at publishing a book. I want to participate in the 50,000 word november. If anyone can help me get into the guild just let me know. Thank you

    • Our meetings are held the first Thursday each month at the West Regional Library at 6pm. We also host an Open Mic on the third Thursdays from 6-8pm at Serda’s Coffee downtown. You do not have to be a member to read.

I am 22 years old and not a student yet. I plan to go in two years. I always been interested in writing but I never had the support I needed to finish any of my work. The MWG seems like a nice place to get my creativity the support it needs. Is there a way or perhaps a meeting I could attend before fully committing? To make sure the guild is right for me. I’d like to get the full experience of membership before becoming a member.
